Current research

Solar and stellar physics:

  • Convection and turbulence in the Sun and in stars
  • The solar corona and chromospherre
  • Particle acceleration and solar flares

Star formation

  • What determines the initial mass function?
  • What determines the star formation rate?
  • What determines the star formatin efficiency?

Planet formation

  • How did our solar system form
  • Where did the short-lived radioactive isotopes come from?
  • How did chondrules form?
  • How did planets form?
  • Can the presence of planets be deduced from stellar spectra?

Plasma physics

  • What are the mechanisms behind gamma-ray bursts?
  • How do shocks in supernova remnants work?
  • How and where are cosmic rays accelerated?
